Adobe acquires maker of 3D collaboration software

Plans to expand 3D capabilities of Adobe Intelligent Document Platform.

Adobe Systems has acquired French firm OKYZ. OKYZ’s Raider3D product suite enables project teams to share and evaluate ideas and documents online. Users can copy a 3D scene from CAD/CAM or another design application and then exchange 3D models via e-mail, embed 3D content in Microsoft Office and Web documents, and organize real-time 3D conferences between manufacturers and suppliers. Adobe will integrate this 3D collaboration software into the Adobe Intelligent Document Platform.

"Adobe recognizes the significant trend toward 3D-based collaboration," says Ivan Koon, senior vice president of Adobe's Intelligent Document Business Unit. "OKYZ brings 3D technology and expertise to Adobe's ongoing effort to enable our customers to view, interact and exchange a wide variety of content in Adobe PDF."
