The next version of CS2, which will be available in May, offers an Assignments feature that lets editors and designers collaborate on a single document.Adobe Systems Inc. has announced InCopy CS2, a new version of its editorial collaborative software tool that the company says tightly integrates with Adobe InDesign CS2 software and boosts collaboration between editors and page designers.
InCopy CS2 features the new InCopy LiveEdit Workflow plug-ins, which enable designers and editors to track and manage active file status using a file check-in/check-out system for small workgroups. Designers can work simultaneously using the Assignments palette without overwriting each other's changes, according to Adobe.

The software also gives designers the capability to assign editors access to specific content within a document. Whether it be an individual frame on a page or across multiple spreads, assignments can be made to different editors within an InDesign document to enable multiuser collaboration.
"The biggest advantage of working with Adobe products, like InDesign CS2, has always been their focus on interoperability and tight integration with the other products in their line," said Jeff Koke of Koke Creative, a marketing and design firm in Austin, Texas. "InCopy CS2 looks to improve on this advantage by giving non-designers the ability to write and edit copy in a highly integrated environment, which preserves the layout and design that designers work so hard to achieve."
InCopy CS2 also made enhancements to expedite the editing process, including giving editors the ability to drag and drop text and the ability to avoid manually reformatting text moved from one area to another by pasting without formatting. Editors can also apply customized automated text macros for inserting frequently used phrases within the document.
