The announcement comes on the heels of the by-all-accounts successful launch of Adobe's Creative Suite 3, with strong sales thus far. The company's revenue for the year to date up 19 percent over its sales during the first three quarters of 2006.

Adobe would give no reason for the departure of Chizen. Chizen himself said publicly that the move had been planned for more than six months.

The departure is rumored to be part of a larger strategy shift at the company, which has recently moved to offer more and more of the functionality of its core products as services through major "Web 2.0" sites,including video editing features currently provided on YouTube.
