Corel Corp. has introduced a plug-in for Corel Painter IX that supports Spotlight, the new search technology launched in Mac OS X Tiger, and enables users to quickly search and find existing Painter files (.RIFF).

"With this new plug-in, Corel Painter IX users on Mac OS X Tiger will be able to search their files in ways that weren't previously possible. Now, users can search for Painter files based on a number of attributes such as text within a .RIFF file, layer names, file info, and image width and height data," said Rick Champagne, program manager for Corel Painter IX for Ottawa-based Corel.

Customers using Mac OS X Tiger can search their Painter files, and all text within a .RIFF file is automatically indexed.

The new technology also works with older Painter files, enabling users to now search through years of work, Champagne said.

Corel is offering the Corel Painter IX Spotlight plug-in as a free download to Painter IX customers. Apple is also offering the plug-in for free download.
