A greatest hits collection for TakeType fans.

Linotype Library has released an anthology of top innovative typefaces from its TakeType Library. Top TakeType is a compilation of 67 font families with a total of 130 weights. Many of the fonts included were competitors or winners in the Linotype International Type Design Contest, a magnet for the avant-garde.

This collection includes fully functional text and display fonts, experimental alphabets, and symbols. Among the font families in this collection is Balder. Ready for work in initials and headlines, Balder recalls the advertisement and poster typefaces of the 1950s and 1960s. Another offering, Escript, is a lively handwriting font in which each letter has a slightly different feel. Linotype Festtagsfont features stick figures prepared to celebrate holidays and birthdays, as well as figures, such as flying letter carriers and rushed waiters, engaged in more serious pursuits. Aroma is a text font with an organic look that can be credited in part to the slightly convex end strokes of many letters. The display font Cineplex is a modern sans serif take on stencil lettering. Space Balls features forty symbols that are actually expressive and unique creatures to which you may develop emotional ties. Russisch Brot is an experimental font inspired by its namesake chocolate cookies made in the form of letters. The basic weight is a good option for headlines and shorter texts, while other weights have been nibbled at, more and more, leaving only the basic forms of the characters, and a few crumbs.

These font families and all of the other Top TakeType typefaces are available in PostScript format for the Macintosh and in either PostScript or TrueType format for Windows. The Top TakeType Value Pack is priced at $127.00, or less than $1.00 per font.
