The updated version of the Photoshop plug-in includes a powerful profile editor and support for the GretagMacbeth ColorChecker SG chart.

PictoColor recently released an upgraded version of InCamera 4.0, an Adobe Photoshop plug-in. The upgraded version has enhanced features to support both the GretagMacbeth ColorChecker SG chart and the HutchColor HCT target for scanners.

Wayne Huelskoetter, chairman of Burnsville, Minn.-based PictoColor Corp., spoke to Publish.com and noted that the main target of the release was to support the new GretagMacbeth color chart. "Because of that chart, we added the ability to verify uniformity of lighting to this release. If you don't have good lighting on your chart, you can't make a good profile," he said.

"The other thing we added that's very important is that the spectral data is now available and users can correct for the illumination source and lighting before making the profile. On the scanner side, the new HutchColor HCT chart, particularly for publishing, is a much better target. And we've made the profile better because of this availability of the charts," Huelskoetter said.

Huelskoetter also noted the power of the new profile editor in the release. "Profile editing is important because good profiling software will profile to the numbers, but you may in the final want a more contrasted picture, or a warmer picture. The profile editor allows photographers to make the image unique to their audience," he said.

Additional features in the new version, according to the release, include:

  • Support of new ColorChecker SG
  • Support of HutchColor HCT target, with twice as many patches as IT8.7/1 and two targets, improved sampling of dark colors, and almost three times as many gray scale steps.
  • Additional reporting quality of image of chart, including noise reporting and lighting uniformity reporting.
  • Customized light source selection for optimization profile for light source.

InCamera is compatible with Photoshop 7.0 and CS as well as Macintosh 9.2 and 10.X in both Native and Classic modes, and with Windows 98SE, Me, 2000 and XP.

InCamera is priced at $149 and available at PictoMarketplace, PictoColor's newly launched online store providing color management products for digital photographers and photo enthusiasts.
