Latest version adds stability, new image and print capabilities.
Quark announced it will
be shipping the latest version of its QuarkXpress publishing software within the
next 30 days.
The new version, QuarkXpress 6.5, includes several features aimed at
easing the process of image manipulation and printing within the software. For
example, Version 6.5 includes native support for Adobe Photoshop (PSD) files, as well as includes QuarkVista, a new XTensions
module for image manipulation the company first previewed at Drupa.
According to the firm, QuarkVista lets users apply a variety of common
filters to images used in a QuarkXPress layout. The filters are
“non-destructive,” so users can change their parameters at any time without
affecting the source image file, Quark said. QuarkVista also lets users scale,
crop, angle and skew the images collected for output, significantly reducing the
size of files for output and the time required to RIP for output. The tool
supports several image file formats, including EPS, JPEG, and TIFF.
Version 6.5 also includes an upgrade to QuarkXClusive, the software’s
variable data printing XTensions module. QuarkXClusive now supports PPML-T,
allowing it to output to both new and older models of HP Indigo digital presses
through HP Production Flow. PPML is an open standard for personalized
printing.
The new version also adds better stability, especially when printing to
multiple devices, the company said. It also includes support for Citrix, which
eases overall deployment and management of the software within large
organizations.
Within 30 days, Version 6.5 will be available for download from Quark.com at no charge
to registered users of QuarkXPress 6. The PSD Import XTensions module and the updated version of
QuarkXClusive, however, will not be available until shortly after the release of
QuarkXPress 6.5.
