On Wednesday, Adobe signed a definitive agreement to acquire Scene 7, a media delivery service that provides businesses with platforms for imaging, cataloging, e-mail and print. Adobe Systems announced on May 3 that it has signed a definitive agreement to acquire Scene7, an on-demand media software company that provides businesses with on-demand platforms for imaging, cataloging and messaging.
The acquisition, expected to close by the end of May 2007, will enable Adobe to offer its users Scene7's publishing services, which include dynamic imaging, eCatalogs, product configurators, targeted e-mail, and print and image management.
Dynamic imaging services from Scene7 provide businesses with tools for sizing and editing, zooming and panning, color swatching, e-videos and templating. Ecatalogs enable businesses to create interactive versions of their print catalogs and brochures while also allowing businesses to integrate the catalogs within their company Web sites.
The targeted e-mail and print service allows businesses to personalize images, messages and graphics while the image management service enables companies to send out preapproved images to channels and partners.
Companies that use Scene7's on-demand media software include Sears, Lands' End, Harrods, Macy's, Office Depot and Levi Strauss & Co.
"This acquisition will help Adobe build out a robust Internet infrastructure, allowing us to further develop Scene7's brand-name customer list and accelerate the online availability of technologies relied on by millions of creatives worldwide," John Loiacono, senior vice president of Adobe's Creative Solutions, in San Jose, Calif., said in a statement.
The acquisition also calls for most of Scene7's employees to join Adobe, with Scene7 CEO Doug Mack taking the position of vice president of Creative Solutions Services at Adobe.
"Adobe is the ideal company to speed the development and worldwide distribution of our rich media solutions," Mack, of Novata, Calif., said in a separate company statement.
