Publishers and advertisers have the choice to allow advertisements to appear on targeted blog posts.Feed management provider
FeedBurner announced May 16 a new ad placement component of its FeedBurner Ad Network that places ads around blog posts on a publisher's site.
The new service allows advertisers to place continuous ads, ads that dynamically appear only on content posted within specific timeframes, and ads associated with highly active content on a site.
"We wanted to make sure that advertisers and publishers had the opportunity to monetize their content no matter where it's viewed, RSS feed or on the page itself," said Rick Klau, vice president of development for FeedBurner.
FeedBurner has been serving ads inside RSS feeds for about one year.
The new service does not currently allow advertisers to target ads by tags, although Klau said that ability is coming.
"We want to get people used to the idea conceptually first," said Klau.
Feeds managed by FeedBurner have increased from 140,000 six months ago to about 300,000 feeds today, according to the company. The number of individuals accessing the feeds has increased from 6.4 million to 14 million.
