FinerEdge adds an XML Paper Specification capability to its publishing software to ease the creation and management of large documents such as manuals and catalogs for publishers. FinerEdge Software announced April 10 that it has added an XML Paper Specification capability to its XML-based publishing software, FinerEdge Publisher.
XPS, a document storage and viewing specification created by Microsoft, is designed to allow enterprises to format pages from Windows XP, Server and Vista platforms.
"With XPS, our FinerEdge Publisher achieves a substantial new level of dynamic processing and formatting of precisely rendered document output, from a single-source publishing engine that can be both server-based and embedded from any application," Elizabeth Kelley, spokesperson for the Escondido, Calif., company, told eWEEK.
With FinerEdge Publisher, applications can produce XPS, PDF, PostScript, XHTML and RTF formats as well as enable users to directly view and print from those applications.
FinerEdge Publisher uses XML and CSS (Cascading Style Sheets) standards, which are style sheets that define how elements such as headers and links will be applied to and displayed on a particular Web page.
"FinerEdge Publisher enables business users to easily format and deliver the exact content desired via the Web on the fly," Kelley said.
The publishing platform also includes an integrated WYSIWYG visual designer, markup editor and style editor that enable business users to see on the display screen exactly what will appear when the document is printed.
In addition, FinerEdge Publisher will enable business professionals to print the documents they need in the format that they want while also reducing printing costs.
"The product was built to automate publishing processes that today are manually created using fixed-page layout programs to include the publishing of very large catalogs [1,500+ pages] and personalized catalog subsections from a single product, helping to reduce publication costs," Kelley said.
FinerEdge Publisher with the added XPS capability is available now; pricing is dependent upon the number of server licenses that the user needs.
