Partnership will create an online global community of over 1 million players.
As the online gaming industry continues its climb, the Global Gaming
League and Clanbase.com, a European
competition organizer for online gaming, have formed a partnership to further
online video gaming. The partnership will see the two companies working together
to take competitive online video gaming to the next level by combining their
respective communities and talents. Together, they form the world's largest
online gaming community with over 1 million players from 190 countries around
the world.
The announcement said the ongoing partnership will see the GGL, who
offered gamers over $100,000 in cash prizes during their 2004 season, supporting
ClanBase across all business segments including marketing, business development,
television production, live event production, and technology development.
Americans, which now represent half of the online gaming revenues, are
projected to be only 24% of the $14.5 billion worldwide market anticipated in
2006. Japan is of extreme interest to the industry because its household
Internet penetration of greater than 80% is the largest in the world and it is a
country nearly as obsessed with sports as America. Countries with even more
long-term promise for the industry are China and Malaysia where already two
times more people have gambled on the Internet than have purchased a product
online.
"We are very excited about building a truly global community of video
gamers," said Ted Owen, co-founder and chairman at the GGL. "The relationship
and synergy with ClanBase will be extremely important in helping us achieve this
goal."
Rob van der Veer, VP at Clanbase said, "The partnership with the GGL is
perfect because of their roots in the entertainment industry, their marketing
know-how, and their ability to raise money. We look forward to working with them
to boost our competitions with more gamers, great coverage, and exciting
events."
