Are you one of the few that went to see the original Dungeons & Dragons movie? Perhaps the sequel? Do you actually own the complete DVD set of the animated series? Can you roleplay a drunken dwarven fighter? Know what "LARP" stands for?

Then perhaps your time has come, adventurer!

In conjunction with 1UP's GameVideos.com site, Wizards of the Coast has announced the first Dungeons & Dragons Fan Film contest, offering fans the chance to produce their own recreation of a Dungeons & Dragons adventure.

The rules allow for films just five minutes long, which may either be pitifully short or agonizingly long, depending on the material. The finished film can be submitted using either the MPEG, QuickTime, Windows Video (.wmv), or AVI file format.

Live-action Dungeon Masters must visit the contest's Web site to enter, and films must be submitted before Sept. 1.

The prize, unfortunately, will not be Gary Gygax's Cloak of Elvenkind; instead, the top three finalists will be flown to Los Angeles for the Worldwide Dungeons & Dragons Game Day, where the winners will be announced. The grand prize winner will take home a new computer, video editing software, a video camera, and a Dungeons & Dragons "Year of Dragons" gift pack which includes the limited-edition Colossal Red Dragon and D&D Chess Set.

All eligible films will be posted at GameVideos by Sept. 15, and fans nationwide will be able to vote for their favorites until Sept. 30. The top ten eligible films, as chosen by the fans, will advance to the final judging, where a panel of celebrity fans and members of the independent film community, as well as game developers, will determine the final three, based on: entertainment value (50 percent), originality (25 percent) and adherence to the D&D genre (25 percent).

Ranger, barbarian, magician, thief, cavalier, acrobat, and...filmmaker?
