Openwave Licenses Helix DNA Client to Provide Support for 3GPP, 3GPP2, RealAudio and RealVideo formats on Mobile Phones.
RealNetworks Inc. and Openwave Systems Inc., a provider of open
software products and services for the mobile communications industry, have made
plans to integrate RealOne Mobile Player with Openwave Phone Tools Version 7.0.
Now, handset manufacturers and wireless operators will be able to integrate a
full multimedia client software solution into their phone and service platforms
and be assured that both 3GPP standards and the popular RealAudio and RealVideo
formats will be supported.
"With the Openwave Mobile Browser in more than 350 million handsets
from 45 manufacturers, Openwave is playing a significant role in shaping the
consumer experience on mobile handsets," said Ian Freed, vice president, Mobile
Products and Services, RealNetworks. "By adding the RealOne Mobile Player to
Phone Tools V7, Openwave and RealNetworks are offering mobile operators the
ability to deploy compelling, revenue-generating audio and video services to
consumers over 2.5G and 3G networks."
"RealNetworks' understanding of the online media market - both in
delivery and creating content services - has made them a leader in this
industry," said Thomas Reardon, vice president and general manager, Openwave.
"By providing RealOne Mobile Player as a standard, tightly integrated component
of Phone Tools V7, handset manufacturers can easily offer consumers and carriers
a high quality audio/video experience."
The
RealOne Mobile Player will be offered as a standard module for Openwave Phone
Tools V7 and is expected to be available within the year.
The
product line includes three key client applications: the market's leading WAP
2.0 browser, a new integrated messaging client, and a fully integrated download
and content manager which, with the RealOne Mobile Player module installed, can
now store video and audio content like MP3s. By providing tight integration with
RealNetworks' RealOne Mobile Player, Phone Tools V7 will open up RealAudio,
RealVideo, and 3GPP audio and video content to mobile consumers. Additionally,
the V7 architecture emphasizes best-of-breed customization, giving operators and
manufacturers control over the user interface as well as the ability to create a
consistent branded experience across the entire handset.
