iPhoto 5 offers advanced photo editing tools.

Apple announced a major upgrade to its iLife package of multimedia software at the Macworld Conference & Expo San Francisco. iLife ?05 includes substantial updates to iPhoto, iMovie, iDVD, and GarageBand, as well as the latest version of iTunes and tighter integration of all these applications. The iLife ?05 suite will be included with all new Macs and available separately for $79 (as of January 22 in the U.S., January 29 worldwide).

The new version of iPhoto delivers:

?        More advanced editing tools so you can optimize exposure, saturation, sharpness and more, and straighten horizons with a tool that includes its own grid.

?        Support for uncompressed RAW photos throughout the application so you can take advantage of all the image data your digital camera can capture.

?        An advanced slideshow builder that lets you apply effects, transitions, and durations to individual slides.

?        A new way to create more affordable soft- and hardcover photo books, with new book layouts and individual 4x6 prints priced at 19 cents each (down from 39 cents each).

With iMovie HD, you can capture and edit widescreen (16:9) high-definition (HDV 720p and 1080i) video from the new generation of HDV camcorders, though iMovie HD also imports video from standard digital video camcorders and from video cameras generating MPEG-4 video.

iDVD 5 features:

?        Support for HDV and widescreen video.

?        15 new themes that include dynamic drop zones.

?        OneStep DVD, with which you can create DVDs by plugging in a DV camcorder and clicking a button.

?        Support for all single-sided DVD formats, including -R, +R, -RW and +RW, with a compatible Apple SuperDrive.

The GarageBand 2 music recording software adds eight-track recording so different instruments could be recorded simultaneously and then manipulated separately. GarageBand also displays and edits musical notation in real time. iTunes 4.7.1 is also included in the iLife 5 suite. This latest version of Apple?s digital music jukebox software is also available as a free download.
