Aims to increase its share of the digital photo editing and printing market.
In a move well-timed to coincide with the upcoming holiday season,
Best Buy launched an
online photo editing and processing site aimed at consumers as well as small
business users.
The site, located at www.BestBuy.com/imagelab, lets users upload digital photos from their camera, and then view,
edit, crop and order prints (priced at 29 cents a piece). The resulting order
can then be picked up at a local Best Buy brick-and-mortar store, or for an
extra fee, can be delivered directly to the user’s residence or place of
business. Best Buy said most orders are turned around within three business
days.
The site does require users to register, but after that, it is free to
upload photos, share them via e-mail, or create slideshows, etc. The site lets
users crop and edit photos, create online photo albums, create personalized
greeting cards and calendars, and select print sizes from wallet to 12” by 18”.
"Digital photography continues to grow in popularity on all types of
devices, and cameras have become easier to use as prices have dropped," said
Mike Mohan, vice president and business general manager of digital imaging at
Best Buy. "People love taking pictures with their digital cameras knowing that
they won't necessarily have to develop each photo. Yet, we know that many people
are asking themselves 'What's the easiest way to get my pictures out of the
camera?' Best Buy imageLab offers a convenient option that addresses this
customer need."
