PictoColor releases color correction plug-in for Adobe Photoshop ... AKVIS announces Retoucher 2.1 ... Sharpen photos with FocalBlade 1.04 ... DxO rolls out Optics Pro v3.0

Two vendors focus on image correction and image sharpening, while DxO Labs adds support for Nikon SLRs and PictoColor enables digital artists to color match skin tones in digital photos.

  • PictoColor Releases Color Correction Plug-in for Adobe Photoshop

    On Monday, Burnsville, Minn.-based PictoColor Corp. released iCorrect Portrait, its color correction plug-in for digital image editing with Adobe Photoshop and Elements, and other photo editors compatible with Photoshop plug-ins.

    Using iCorrect Portrait gives photo editors and photographers one-step color correction for color balancing, editing and matching skin tones in digital images.

    Users can also save color correction settings and apply corrections within batch images, as well as adjusting for brightness and contrast in digital images.

    The plug-in is compatible with Windows and Macintosh operating systems and is priced at $99.95.

  • AKVIS Announces Retoucher 2.1

    Akvis LLC, of Vancouver, British Columbia, has released its image plug-in Akvis Retoucher 2.1, which enables photo restoration and removal of surface defects on damaged photos.

    The Akvis Retoucher 2.1 boosts digital image processing by enabling users to detect image surface defects, including scratches, water spots and stains, and remove them from the image.

    The latest version supports 16 bits per channel, and the plug-in can also be used to remove date stamps and logos and to restore missing parts from a photo by applying image information from existing image areas.

    A full trial version is available at the company Web site and a single copy license is priced at $87.

  • Sharpen Photos with FocalBlade 1.04

    Late last week, Nuremberg, Germany-based The Plugin Site released FocalBlade 1.04, its Photoshop-compatible plug-in for sharpening photo images for screen display or print output.

    Using FocalBlade, image editors can add blur, soft focus and glow effects to 8-bit and 16-bit RGB images. The image editor is the second product in The Plugin Site's PhotoWiz photo correction software line.

    FocalBlade 1.04 enables batch processing of images as well providing three automatic sharpening options, split view modes and manual sharpening methods. Users can also preset and save sharpening effects for processing future images.

    According to the company, several minor bugs were fixed with the release as well.

    FocalBlade is currently available for Windows, and the company is planning to release a Macintosh version in the future.

    Pricing for the tool runs $49.95 and a demo version can be downloaded here.

  • DxO Rolls Out Optics Pro v3.0

    DxO Labs, of Boulogne, France, has released Optics Pro v.3.0, its image processing software adding support for the Nikon D70s and Nikon D2X digital SLRs.

    The latest version also includes DxO Lighting Engine for image lighting correction and DxO Noise Engine for removing and reducing image noise. The release also has boosted Raw conversion controls by adding Tone Curve and Hue/Saturation/Luminance functions.

    Users can batch process images using DxO Optics Pro and JPEG and Raw files can be mixed in the same batch, according to the company. The software is compatible on both Windows and Macintosh platforms.

    DxO Optics Pro v3.0 is targeted at professional photographers and is priced at $159; DxO Optics Pro v3.0 Elite is available for $249 and adds full support for professional DSLRs, according to the company.
