New version improves compatibility with the latest Mac operating system. Also, Extensis updates Portfolio Raw Filter with support for 14 more digital cameras.Extensis on Tuesday announced that it has updated its Portfolio 7 digital asset management software to version 7.0.6. The upgrade improves compatibility with the latest version of Mac OS X 10.4 "Tiger" and with Adobe's Creative Suite 2.
In addition, the updated Portfolio Raw Filter 2 provides support for 14 more digital cameras, including Nikon's D2x and D2hs; Olympus' E300 and C8080; and Canon's EOS 1Ds Mark II, Digital Rebel XT and Powershot S70. With this upgrade, Portfolio 7 now supports the Raw format for more than 50 pro-level digital cameras.
Registered users of Portfolio 7 may download the update free at the Extensis Web site. The client version of Portfolio 7 retails for about $200, while Portfolio Server sells for about $3,500. The company also offers a range of client and server versions of Portfolio that cater to large workgroups and individual users.
"Extensis is committed to keeping our products compatible with the latest computing platforms and digital cameras our customers use everyday," said Dan Harlacher, Portfolio product manager, in an interview with Publish.com.
Harlacher added that Extensis' goal was to deliver Tiger compatibility to its users as quickly as possible.
According to Harlacher, a couple of internal components broke and needed to be fixed so that Portfolio could work properly with Tiger. Except for the Raw Filter update, the new release does not offer increased functionality from the previous 7.0.4 version.

And although the update provides Tiger functionality, Extensis, of Portland, Ore., was not able to take advantage of Tiger's new Automator feature during the brief window of time its developers had to make Portfolio Tiger-compatible.
"We will probably leverage the stuff we already have with AppleScript for Automator, but there just wasn't the time to [develop] actions for this update," Harlacher said.
Harlacher said that improved functionality, including Automator actions, would be included in the next full version of Portfolio. However, he declined to say when Portfolio 8 would be available.
"We're working on it," he said.
