Pacific Image is incorporating technology into its film scanner product that will provide advanced scratch and dust removal to scanned images.

Pacific Image Electronics is bundling LaserSoft's award-winning SilverFast SE 6.0 with SRD by LaserSoft Imaging AG with its popular PrimeFilm 1800 Silver film scanner. Bundling LaserSoft's upgraded SilverFast software with the PF1800Silver will give users even greater ability to improve the appearance of scanned images.

LaserSoft's SilverFast SE 6.0 scanning and image enhancement software incorporates SRD, an advanced scratch and dust removal function that provides users with the capability to easily remove dust and scratches from images either during scanning or from scanned raw data files. SRD works with black and white images as well as color image files. A real-time preview permits users to determine the best possible setting for removing scratch and dust artifacts.

Other features of SilverFast SE 6.0 include Selective Color Correction with Multi-Layers and Masking (for handling complex images), ACR (Adaptive Color Restoration restores faded or normalizes over-saturated colors), SC2G (converts color images to greyscale) and GANE (eliminates grain and noise while preserving image detail).

The PF1800 Silver is an affordable, yet powerful tool targeted for the needs of desktop publishers, graphic and Web site designers, photographers and PC/photo enthusiasts. Priced at $239.99, the PF1800 Silver can be used for everything from preparing photos for intricate graphic design projects to digitizing the family photo album.

The PF1800 Silver quickly and easily converts mounted and un-mounted negative and positive 35mm filmstrips and slides into digital files with quality far superior to photos scanned with traditional flatbed technology. A resolution of 1800 dpi and 36-bit scanning capability ensures lifelike color reproduction and preserves every photographic detail.

The unit, which is lightweight (1.65 pounds) and measures just 10.5" X 6.5" X 2.5 inches, connects via USB port to any Windows XP, Windows Me, Windows 2000 or Mac OS version 9.1 or later system equipped with a USB solution.

The SilverFast software will be available to PF1800Silver buyers via a free download.

Adobe Photoshop Elements 2.0 is also bundled with the PF1800 Silver, creating a high-quality scanning package at a reasonable price.
