FlightCheck Pro and FlightCheck Designer get full support for PDF 1.5 and 16-bit TIFF.

Markzware Software, a developer of software solutions for the printing and graphic arts industries, has released FlightCheck Professional and FlightCheck Designer 5.52. The new releases are compatible with Mac OS X and Windows 98 and later.

Patrick Marchese, president and CEO of Santa Ana, Calif.-based Markzware, said: "FlightCheck is about control quality for digital files before output—[that includes] all files, even PDF. What people create on the computer is in a completely different language than the output. What our software does is map that difference."

FlightCheck Professional is a prepress control tool for use in larger print shops, service bureaus and publishers. FlightCheck Designer 5.52 is a simplified version of Markzware's FlightCheck Professional, and gives individual designers and document creators a print quality control tool.

FlightCheck Professional can scan a varied range of digital file formats, including native application files from Adobe Systems Inc., Microsoft Corp. and Quark Inc. The program can detect and flag issues such as missing fonts, resolution conflicts, and incorrect color spacing, according to the company.

Some of the new features added to FlightCheck Professional and FlightCheck Designer 5.52 include: full preflight support for PDF version 1.5; command line interface for Windows version; faster file processing; and support for 16-bit TIFF images.

This update also returned support for OPI Images and resolved the InDesign document crash issue, as well as resolving an issue where tint colors used in PDF documents were being reported as spot color.

"What we've done with 5.52 is put back items lost from the 4.5 version of FlightCheck Designer, and made those compatible with both operating systems," Marchese said.

Both FlightCheck Professional and Designer v5.52 are available for free to registered users of FlightCheck v.5.5. Pricing starts at $499 for FlightCheck Professional and $199 for FlightCheck Designer v.5.52.
