Yahoo!'s new redesign gets personal, with all kinds of customization options and Web 2.0-ish features.

Yahoo! has done some sprucing up and today goes public with some major renovations to the main Yahoo.com home page. The new look is currently in beta, and is available for preview here.

The renovations include a refreshingly new layout and some ease-of-use changes for those wanting to get at their personal Yahoo! tools and services more quickly. Engineers also took a hard look at visitor data to determine the most popular types of content so they could best weigh what should be published to the main page. Now you'll find in one place a well-rounded glimpse of what the Web and blogosphere consider the top news, entertainment info, finance, and sports stories, easily accessible behind folders.

Perhaps the most notable ease-of-use addition is a sign-in box providing Yahooligans access to their Yahoo mail, Messenger, Music, Weather, Local info, and Movies without leaving the main page. Another change is to the list of categories displayed on the left side of the page. These represent the 10 most popular Yahoo! properties at any given point. That's the new default, but if you are a regular visitor to Yahoo!'s pages the site will begin to add your own most visited Yahoo! pages to the list. You'll also find that the home page will auto-optomize itself for your screen resolution, whether 800x600, 800x1024, etc.

A final new addition worth noting is Yahoo! Pulse, a lazy-Susan of a section added to the bottom right corner of the page that refreshes every few seconds with stats on the Yahoo! community's favorite rated music, photos, videos, popular search terms, and other tidbits.
