Adobe plans to use software from the privately held Vancouver company to add native ebXML support to its Intelligent Document Platform.
Adobe announced the acquisition of
Yellow Dragon Software--which makes an off-the-shelf Electronic Business
eXtensible Markup Language (ebXML) application--and that its technology will be
incorporated into Adobe enterprise-level PDF software.
According to an Adobe statement, the
company believes this acquisition will not have a "material financial impact" on
its financials.
The ebXML language marries data and
business-logic processes in an XML framework. Sponsored by the United Nations
Centre for Trade Facilitation and Electronic Business (UN/CEFACT) and the
Organization for the Advancement of Structured Information Standards (OASIS),
ebXML is an open XML specification that provides a standard method for
exchanging business messages, conducting trading relationships, communicating
data in common terms, and defining and registering business
processes.
Adobe will incorporate it all "with the
rich presentation and enhanced security capabilities of PDF," the company
said.
"The addition of Yellow Dragon is a
powerful extension to the Adobe Intelligent Document Platform," said Adobe
Senior Vice President Ivan Koon. "We believe Yellow Dragon's technology will
enable us to offer XML functionality, which will be mandated by governments and
businesses over the next few years. We also gain experienced engineers who are
active in the XML standards arena and who helped define the ebXML
standard."
