DAM solution is offered in three versions for workgroups and three for enterprise. Also, Canto offloads sales of single-user versions.

San Francisco- and Berlin-based DAM solutions provider Canto Software Inc. has announced the release of version 6.6 of its flagship Cumulus digital assets management solution in multiple configurations designed to meet the varying needs of workgroups and enterprise customers.

"Organizations are recognizing that workflow and secure handling of assets are integral to brand protection. Canto is making it easy for them to live up to that demand," said Canto senior product manager Ulrich Knocke.

To meet the demands of its customers, Canto also has restructured its Cumulus server-based product lines to offer a choice of three solutions each for its workgroup and enterprise customers.

The workgroup offerings range from an Archive Server Solution starting at $3,495 that provides users with a centralized access to its digital files to a Business Server Solution starting at $9,995 that enables employees to remotely access and manipulate files over the Internet.

Meanwhile, the enterprise offerings include an Enterprise Archive Server Solution with a starting price of $27,995. There is also an Enterprise Publishing Server Solutions with a starting price of $29,995 that, according to Canto, acts as a backbone to Web content management and other production and marketing workflows. Canto also announced an Enterprise Business Server Solution with a starting price of $34,995 that offers a complete DAM setup for large entities whose workers must be able to access digital assets via the Internet.

All versions of Cumulus 6.6 are available immediately for Mac OS X Server, including compatibility with Tiger Server, Windows server products, Linux and Sun Solaris, with accompanying client applications that will work either in Mac OS X or Windows XP.

English, French, German and Japanese versions all are available, and each solution comes with one year of support and upgrades.

In conjunction with its announcement of Cumulus 6.6, Canto also announced its release of two Web-based applications designed to work with all versions of Cumulus 6.6. Internet Client Pro 3.0, or ICP3, and Web Publisher Pro 3.0, or WPP3, enable users to publish digital assets on dynamic Web pages. Both come with RSA-encrypted password capabilities, quicker performance than earlier versions and automation functionality.

According to the company, WPP3 comes standard with Cumulus Publishing Server Solutions, while ICP3 comes standard with Cumulus Business Server Solutions.

In the wake of these workgroup-related and enterprise-related announcements, Canto also announced Monday that it has chosen MediaDex FZ LLC to take over marketing and sales of Canto's single-user products and will be collaborating with MediaDex to develop shareware that incorporates Canto's proprietary DAM technology.
