The platform is a new tool for publishers to process and manage content.Among publishers' main goals are to be able to successfully and conveniently update their online and offline published content, as well as protect its usage.
With the release of FAST ProPublish, companies have a decidedly easier route to the management, retrieval and delivery of multisource content.
FAST ProPublish, released by Fast Search & Transfer ASA, an enterprise search and real-time alerting technology developer based in Oslo, Norway, is the first publishing solution delivered on an enterprise search platform, the company said.
FAST ProPublish is built on the company's award-winning FAST Enterprise Search Platform.
The tool offers publishers rapid assembly and delivery of content from disparate media both offline and online by utilizing the Production Manager utility.
For instance, a publisher can take Web site content and repurpose it for a CD-based publication.
FAST ProPublish also provides publishers the ability to pull content in real-time from existing editorial systems and push the content out through Web servers or CD-ROMs.
This gives publishers the tools to capture changes made to the content and post them to an update server, allowing users the capability to download the updates locally.
"Publishers have long struggled with ways to quickly and effectively collect and process content from a wide variety of data sources to meet the demands of their subscribers," said Ali I. Riaz, Fast's CEO, in a release.
Publishers can manage the subscription and licensing demands of content, including subscription, pay-per-view or blended media-based model content, according to the company.
One of the long-term value-added benefits in using this tool is its ability to present researchers with search results and content from publications for which they might not have existing subscriptions; researchers have the ability to view and purchase that content within the platform.
Fast Search & Transfer ASA is known for its enterprise search and technology solutions and with the release of FAST ProPublish has now directed its expansion toward increasing market share in the management of content and search-based solutions in the publishing arena.
"FAST ProPublish is positioned to truly transform the method by which publishers gather and process information for their end-users and the means by which those end-users navigate and retrieve information," said Phillip Claiborne, chief technical officer of Municipal Code Corporation.
