The partnership seeks to strengthen the FLUiD content management system offering.

Hoping to capitalize on the multiformat enterprise publishing market, FeedStream, a provider of XML-based Web content management solutions, has formed an OEM partnership with the maker of native XML databases, Sleepycat Software. Under the agreement, FeedStream will embed Berkeley DB XML 2.0 in its FLUiD CMS 4.5 Enterprise Edition.

FeedStream Inc., based in Ontario, said via release that there are more than 200 million copies of Berkeley DB deployed in the field.

FeedStream President Michael Bardeggia said of the newly inked agreement, "Prior to using an XML Database [Berkeley DB XML 2.0], we were storing our XML content as flat files in a folder hierarchy. We established a partnership with Sleepycat to strengthen the FLUiD content management system offering. With the XML database we're able to create more robust and scalable Web publishing solutions for our larger clients."

Some of the new features noted by Bardeggia via e-mail include the ability to create multiple document formats such as PDFs, HTML and Flash, and the ability to combine information from multiple sources into multiple formats as either dynamic or static content.

"We can now create complex Web publishing solutions that use the power of technologies such as XQuery. Sleepycat's database products are battle-tested and solid. We feel we have the right partner to help us capitalize on the multiformat enterprise publishing market," Bardeggia said.

"Our new XQuery 1.0 support benefits customers that have been waiting for a standard for XML databases similar to the SQL standard for relational databases," said Mike Olson, CEO of Massachusetts-based Sleepycat Software Inc. "Developers are increasingly turning to XQuery to provide much more 'elegant' solutions to problems that were previously tremendously messy, if not completely impossible to work out."

FLUiD CMS 4.5 Enterprise Edition with Berkeley DB XML 2.0 is available immediately.

Bardeggia noted that FeedStream releases major upgrades every six months and uses a software update service to ensure client solution and authoring software is kept current.
