New suite of peer-to-peer tools build community-based problem solving.

IBM has launched a new suite of peer-to-peer applications designed for community-based problem solving, available on alphaWorks at www.ibm.com/alphaWorks. IBM Community Tools allows users to interact with various communities using instant and broadcast messaging.

IBM Community Tools is a messaging client that combines the broadcast messaging technology in IBM MQ Event Broker with the enterprise instant messaging capabilities of IBM Lotus Sametime, with Web services running under WebSphere.

Features of IBM Community Tools include: SkillTap--broadcast requests for help to the community's online subscribers; FreeJam--hold just-in-time discussions with community members; PollCast--poll the community on hot topics and receive anonymous real-time survey results; TeamRing--conduct instant Web presentations; w3alert--send instant alerts to community members, with optional links to Internet pages; and Question Search--use natural language to search multiple knowledge bases and receive rated answers before asking the community for help.
