The company says this software will streamline imaging and document work flow.J2S has released its upgraded J2S Editor Version 2.0, International Press Telecommunications Council captioning software with file management capabilities for Mac OS X.
Speaking to Publish.com, Richard Loubéjac, co-founder of France-based J2S, said one of the most important additions in this release is the ability to export IPTC data to XML files.
"The XML tags are based upon the description profile. This is why the sample profiles do not contain white spaces or accentuated characters. This way, it is possible to quickly create a portfolio in InDesign CS, for example," he said.
He also noted, "We have a long experience in the development of image management systems. We try to implement the customers' (or prospects') requests that we think will answer needs that are more general. So, in a way, all improvements are made according to customer requests."
The software is specifically geared for use by professional photographers and photo agencies, and in light of their needs, the view modes have been improved upon in this release as well.
The J2SProfile name and caption status can be displayed, and Loubéjac also noted, "Major improvements are related to the combination with a J2SProfile [caption profile]. A sample caption profile [Photoshop_rename] has been
included with J2SEditor. So it is now possible to check the caption status against the J2SProfile constraints."
So when a photographer triggers the "working folder," according to Loubéjac, the file captions will be checked against the J2SProfile with which they are associated, and the files will be marked: "To be captioned," "Captioned," "Renamed" or "Not Compliant with the profile," Loubéjac said.
The processing speed was boosted in this release, and color marks can be applied to documents in the work flow for faster identification.
Loubéjac said there are quite a few uses for this feature, but cited one that speeds a photographer's process: "Using this, they have the ability to rapidly scan a folder containing a lot of pictures using the thumbnail view. Photos are marked, then sorted using the Mark criteria, so they can be compared or even sent to a potential customer."
On the image managing side, Loubéjac noted these features to help streamline the process: fast International Press Telecommunications Council edition for photo archiving, controlled and automatic input, abiding to strict naming conventions, thumbnail views with right color profile, sort options, and expedient photo duplicating in a folder ready for CD-ROM.
The last major version (1.5) was released in April 2004.
