New version offers broader content access and publishing capabilities, company says.Pushing content and collaboration, Near-Time Inc. has released the commercial version of Near-Time Current for Mac OS X, its Web content management application.
Reid Conrad, president and CEO of Chapel Hill, N.C.-based Near-Time, said the release comes after a three-month user trial period. "This release of Current has focused on accelerating the means to acquire Web content, organize, enhance and repurpose it through publishing or posting back to the Web," Conrad said.
He said that user feedback drove Near-Time to broaden content access and diversify the publishing capabilities of Near-Time Current.

Customers using the application range from personal researchers to professionals using Current to package deliverables digitally. This version of the software was in development for over a year and includes features such as a WYSIWYG editor, feeds management, automated content filters, context-driven navigation and a blogging client.
Conrad said Current's use of Web standards, including XML, RSS, HTML and Weblog APIs, results in unprecedented content interoperability between the desktop and the Web.
He also noted the advanced RSS management feature saying, "Current's ability to receive and publish RSS feeds results in a powerful broadcasting opportunity for users. We are seeing a new form of standards-based collaboration emerge."
