The World Wide Web Consortium updates its Architecture of the Web draft, moves ahead with the QA Framework and announces an SVG Mobile design competition.

The W3C is moving ahead on several fronts, not the least of which is the release of a new draft update for its Architecture of the World Wide Web. The group also announced its QA Framework has advanced to the Candidate Recommendation comments phase and it kicked off a Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG) Mobile design competition.

The W3C Technical Architecture Group (TAG) announced Oct. 1 that it had released an updated Working Draft of the Architecture of the World Wide Web. Drafted for discussion at the TAG's face-to-face meeting scheduled for Oct. 6-8, the document explains Web protocols in three dimensions: identification and resources, interaction, and representation and formats. For more information, visit the TAG home page.

At the end of September, the W3C announced it had advanced the QA Framework: Operational Guidelines to the Candidate Recommendation stage. The QA Framework document is designed to help W3C Working Groups plan, develop, deploy and maintain conformance test materials. Comments will be accepted through Feb. 27, 2004. For more information, go to the QA page.

The W3C also kicked off an SVG Mobile design competition. Participants are invited to design an SVG Tiny greeting card using 30K bytes or less. Those who do will receive a Nokia 3650 tri-band Global System for Mobile (GSM) handset, and the best entries will be featured on the W3C Web site, linked to their designers' Web pages. An interview with the winning designer will also be featured. Competitors can enter as many times as they like through Nov. 3, and the SVG Working Group will choose the winner, to be announced Nov. 24. For more information, go to the SVG Working Group page.
