Company says its new modular XCMS is not only affordable, it requires zero coding, saving costly programming/consulting fees.
RedDot Solutions rolled out a new
modular enterprise content management (ECM) suite targeted specifically for
mid-market organizations.
The suite, called Extended Content
Management Suite (XCMS), offers robust functionality at a reasonable price point
– about $60,000 for the Content Management Server – and it works straight out of
the box.
"A typical installation – even with all the modules – will require no coding
whatsoever," a company spokesman said. "This substantially lowers
programming/consulting costs."
Analysts agreed that XCMS fills a need
in the mid-market. "Mid-sized organizations face the same content management
needs as businesses twice their size, only they are typically restrained by
budgets and resources," said Mark Gilbert, research director at Gartner Inc.
"The market is ripe for a sophisticated solution at a price point that can be
afforded by mid-tier organizations."
XCMS includes the following
modules:
* RedDot Content
Management Server (CMS). The CMS lets users create, review, manage and
archive content elements from various sources. It includes multi-level
workflows, version management, user administration via LDAP integration, and
multilingual capabilities. Concurrent with the release of XCMS, RedDot said the
CMS module has been enhanced to include Microsoft Office integration, increased
navigation support and expanded Digital Asset Management capabilities. It also
now offers full integration with the Content Collaboration Server (CCS), another
module in the suite, significantly bolstering its Web publishing capabilities
(see below).
* RedDot Content
Collaboration Server (CCS). This server handles document and knowledge
management, and provides full indexing and search capabilities, project
collaboration and business process workflow. RedDot said CCS lets users store
documents of all types within a folder structure, assigning them meta
information and authorizations. Now that CCS is integrated with CMS, information
created within CCS can be published simultaneously to a Web site, intranet
and/or extranet, the company said.
* RedDot Content
Personalization Server (CPS). CPS, an XML/XSL- and Java-based system,
lets users set and administer user profiles, as well as perform user-specific
content delivery. According to RedDot, it allows for "implicit personalization,"
or the real-time analysis of user behavior to determine interests and the
creation of step-by-step user profiles. CPS has also been enhanced to support
Web services, interoperability with CCS and CMS, and a new graphical user
interface.
* RedDot Content
Integration Server (CIS). CIS is a Java-based framework for integrating
back-end applications
with Web sites, intranets and extranets. Based on J2EE
and XML/XSL, it lets developers access all objects (such as users, content,
sessions, etc.) and edit them within their native applications. This makes it
easy to implement custom applications such as e-shops or online booking systems,
RedDot said.
The XCMS suite is available now. Based
on 50 concurrent users, the CMS module costs about $60,000, as does the CCS
module. The CIS and CPS, which use server-based pricing, cost another $40,000
each.
