Google has announced that its Google Analytics Data Export API beta is now available for developers.

Google now gives users the option to post a link to a Google profile at the bottom of name-query search pages, meaning that anyone searching for a user online can view information that the user wants the world to see. This potentially allows Google to use its search engine to create more of a social networking presence online, similar to Facebook and Twitter.

Omniture adds a new application to its Omniture SiteCatalyst tool that allows users to monitor the spread of viral video on YouTube and other sites. Salesforce, Google, Amazon and other companies have all been expanding the range of applications available on their cloud-based computing platforms, even allowing clients to monitor Twitter, YouTube, Facebook and other sites to see how a particular service or product is being greeted by the general public.

Google has announced it is adding Java to the languages developers can use to build applications in its cloud-based Google App Engine .Google said it delivered Java support for developers working on large projects and enterprise systems whose needs were not met by Python alone. Google is giving access to the Java support to the first 10,000 developers to sign up for it.

Cloud Sherpas, a Google Apps enterprise deployment partner, has announced its support for Google's addition of Java to the Google App Engine platform. The systems integrator also announced the formation of a Google App Engine development practice dedicated to extending the utility of Google Apps in large scale, enterprise deployments.

A penetration test by Netragard at an energy company highlights how hackers can use Facebook, LinkedIn and other social networking sites as part of phishing schemes. In the test, Netragard used social engineering to get its hands on information that could have been used to compromise critical systems at the company. Addressing this security issue means having smart policies about what employees can and cannot do on the Web.

Google updates the mobile version of Gmail running on the iPhone and the Android Web browser to make it faster and more flexible with aggressive caching and the use of new technologies such as HTML5 and Gears. The new Gmail for Mobile comes out April 7. Although Android occupies a relatively small portion of the mobile operating system market at this point, companies such as Samsung are planning to equip upcoming devices with the OS.

The Associated Press plans on hunting down unauthorized users of its online content, a move that some reports say could put it on a collision course with Google News. Google and the Associated Press have been in conflict in the past, and worked out previous agreements concerning news dissemination. Neither company has acknowledged any sort of dispute.

A new version of the Neeris worm is exploiting the same Microsoft flaw as Conficker. The Neeris worm dates back to 2005, according to Microsoft.
